The purpose of the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral Fellowship (Parent F31) award is to enable promising predoctoral students to obtain individualized, mentored research training from outstanding faculty sponsors while conducting dissertation research in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers.
Medical Scientist Training Program (T32) (Deadline: July 2022, July 2023, July 2024)
The goal of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) is to develop a diverse pool of highly trained clinician-scientist leaders available to meet the Nation’s biomedical research needs. Specifically, this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) provides support to eligible domestic institutions to develop and implement effective, evidence-informed approaches to integrated dual-degree training leading to the award of both clinical degrees, e.g., M.D., D.O., D.V.M., D.D.S., Pharm.D., and research doctorate degrees (Ph.D.).
National Institutes of Health Training Programs in the Biomedical Sciences (Deadline: Ongoing)
NIH offers many opportunities for students of all degree levels to conduct research on the NIH campus. Programs include short-term and longer commitments for college, post-bac, graduate and post-doctoral level scholars. The programs for medical and dental students include the NIH Clinical Research Training Program (CRTP), the HHMI-NIH Research Scholars Program and the NIH Clinical Electives Program.
NIH Career Development Awards (Deadline: Ongoing)
Also known as K awards, career development awards are usually mentored research awards given by each institute and designed for individuals who have not yet obtained an independent research award.
NIH Loan Repayment Program (Deadline: Ongoing)
Application for the loan repayment program is available for researchers who commit to at least two years of qualified research in the extramural or intramural program. Qualified research includes clinical and pediatric, and NIH will pay up to $35,000 per year of student loan debt.

Fogarty International Center Global Health Program for Fellows and Scholars (Deadline: August 20, 2021)
A one-year mentored clinical research training experience for predoctoral/pre-professional and postdoctoral/post-professional trainees from the U.S. and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) at established research institutions and project sites in LMICs in the health sciences, including medical, dental and public health students
Howard Hughes Medical Center Gilliam Fellowship for Advanced Study (Deadline: December 9, 2021)
The program provides awards to pairs of dissertation advisers and their graduate students based on what HHMI values and considers essential components of the environment, particularly the institution and adviser’s commitment to creating a healthy academic ecosystem and the student’s potential for scientific leadership. Fellows are supported for up to three years of dissertation research, typically in years three, four, and five of PhD study.
