EVERYONE Grant (Deadline: December 1st, 2021) 
EVERYONE stands for Early Stage Investigator Program Promoting Diversity in Antibiotic Resistance Research. ARLG will have up to two seed grants per year that provide $50,000 in direct costs of NIH funding they are for research in areas related to antibacterial resistance (AR). MD, PhD, or Pharm D students, graduate or post-graduate trainees, or those with a faculty appointment of less than five years are eligible to apply.

Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship (Parent F32) (Deadline: Ongoing)  
The purpose of the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship (Parent F32) is to support research training of highly promising postdoctoral candidates who have the potential to become productive, independent investigators in scientific health-related research fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers.

NIH Common Fund High Risk-High Reward Programs   
(Deadline: Ongoing)  The High-Risk, High-Reward Research program supports exceptionally creative scientists pursuing highly innovative research with the potential for broad impact in biomedical, behavioral, or social sciences within the NIH mission. Preliminary data are not required. The program's four constituent NIH Director's awards provide a diverse set of funding opportunities. See the individual awards below.  

NIH Director's Pioneer Award Program  (Deadline: September 15, 2021) 

The award supports scientists with outstanding records of creativity pursuing new research directions to develop pioneering approaches to major challenges in biomedical, social science, and behavioral research.

NIH Director's Transformative Research Award Program (Deadline: September 1, 2021) 

The award supports individuals or teams proposing transformative projects that are inherently risky and untested but have the potential to create or overturn fundamental paradigms and may require very large budgets.

NIH Fogarty International Center Funding Opportunities     (Deadline: Ongoing)

NIH Director’s Early Independence Award (Deadline: September 3, 2021) 

Part of the High-Risk, High-Reward Research program, the award supports outstanding junior scientists with the intellect, scientific creativity, drive, and maturity bypass the traditional postdoctoral training period to launch independent research careers. 

NIH Career Development Awards (Deadline: Ongoing)  
Also known as K awards, career development awards are usually mentored research awards given by each institute and designed for individuals who have not yet obtained an independent research award. 

National Biosafety & Biocontainment Training Program (Deadline: August 2022) 

NBBTP is a 2 year program to train fellows to work in high containment research environments by acquiring knowledge and skills necessary to meet the scientific, regulatory, biocontainment, biosafety, engineering, communications, management, and public relations challenges associated with the conduct of research in these facilities.

Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00 Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed) (Deadline: October 27, 2021)

The purpose of the Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00) program is to support a cohort of early career, independent investigators from diverse backgrounds conducting research in NIH mission areas. The MOSAIC K99/R00 program will provide independent NIH research support before and after this transition to help awardees launch successful, independent research careers. Additionally, MOSAIC K99/R00 scholars will be part of organized scientific cohorts and will be expected to participate in mentoring, networking, and professional development activities coordinated by MOSAIC Institutionally-Focused Research Education Award to Promote Diversity (UE5) grantees.

Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00 - Independent Clinical Trial Required) (Deadline: October 27, 2021)

The purpose of the Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00) program is to support a cohort of early career, independent investigators from diverse backgrounds conducting research in NIH mission areas. The MOSAIC K99/R00 program will provide independent NIH research support before and after this transition to help awardees launch successful, independent research careers. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed specifically for applicants proposing to serve as the lead investigator of an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or a separate ancillary clinical trial, as part of their research and career development.

Fogarty International Center Global Health Program for Fellows and Scholars (Deadline: August 20, 2021)  

A one-year mentored clinical research training experience for  predoctoral/pre-professional and postdoctoral/post-professional trainees from the U.S. and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) at established research institutions and project sites in LMICs in the health sciences, including medical, dental and public health students.

National Institutes of Health Training Programs in the Biomedical Sciences  (Deadline: Ongoing) 
NIH offers many opportunities for students of all degree levels to conduct research on the NIH campus.  Programs include short-term and longer commitments for college, post-bac, graduate and post-doctoral level scholars.  The programs for medical and dental students include the NIH Clinical Research Training Program (CRTP), the HHMI-NIH Research Scholars Program and the NIH Clinical Electives Program. 

NIH Career Development Awards (Deadline: Ongoing) 
Also known as K awards, career development awards are usually mentored research awards given by each institute and designed for individuals who have not yet obtained an independent research award. 

NIH Loan Repayment Program(Deadline: Ongoing) 
Application for the loan repayment program is available for researchers who commit to at least two years of qualified research in the extramural or intramural program.  Qualified research includes clinical and pediatric, and NIH will pay up to $35,000 per year of student loan debt. 

PrEP for HIV Prevention among Substance Using Populations (R01-Clinical Trial Option) (November 12, 2021) 
The National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) is interested in research that addresses research gaps related to PrEP and its use among substance users, with the goals of improving PrEP management and implementation. 

American Women: Assessing Risk Epidemiologically (AWARE) (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) (Deadline: December 9, 2021) 

The NIH will support multidisciplinary epidemiological research to better understand HIV transmission, prevention, and early cascade points in American women infected with HIV.  

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Somatic Cell Gene Editing Therapies To Improve Transplantation Outcomes  (Deadline: October 5, 2021)

This Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) aims to stimulate multidisciplinary research collaborations that utilize cutting-edge technologies to apply progress made in SCGE to transplantation research. Research funded by this NOSI may utilize various models, including human tissues or organs excluded from clinical use and/or rodent, porcine, or nonhuman primate models.

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) HIV/AIDS in the Era of COVID-19: When Pandemics Collide (Deadline: May 8, 2024) 

The NIH issued a NOSI to communicate special interest in epidemiology investigations to quantify the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) prevention, incidence, transmission, and outcomes. 

Emergency Awards: Antiviral Drug Discovery (AViDD) Centers for Pathogens of Pandemic Concern (U19 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) (Deadline: October 21, 2021) 

The program supports comprehensive multidisciplinary research focused on innovative antiviral drug development targeting coronaviruses (CoVs), emphasizing SARS-CoV-2, and one or more select RNA viruses with pandemic potential. 

Systems Biology for Infectious Diseases (U19 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) (Deadline: December 14, 2021)

The purpose of the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support research that employs systems biology approaches to human pathogens.  The approach will generate and integrate large datasets into models that guide in vitro, in vivo and clinical studies, with the goals of predicting disease severity, predicting responses to vaccines and therapeutics, and identifying candidate targets for interventions.

Support for Research Excellence (SuRE) Award (R16 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) (Deadline: May 21, 2021) 

SuRE is a research capacity building program designed to develop and sustain research excellence in U.S. higher education institutions that receive limited NIH research support and serve students from groups underrepresented in biomedical research NOT-OD-20-031 with an emphasis on providing students with research opportunities and enriching the research environment at the applicant institutions. 

Lasker Clinical Research Scholars Program (Si2/R00 Clinical Trial Optional) (Deadline: June 24, 2022)

The NIH has created the Lasker Clinical Research Scholars (Lasker Scholars) program that will offer applicants the opportunity to compete for a unique combination of intramural and extramural resources for clinical research. The program will support a small number of exceptional clinical researchers in the early stages of their independent careers to promote their development as fully independent scientists. The program combines a period of research experience as a tenure-track Investigator in the IRP with additional years of independent financial support, either within the IRP or at an extramural research institution.

Limited Competition: Research Resource for the National Swine Resource and Research Center (U42 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) (Deadline: May 25, 2022 and September 25, 2022)

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide continued support for the National Swine Resource and Research Center (NSRRC). The NSRRC serves as a central resource for the creation of genetically modified swine in response to the needs of the community and the cryopreservation of genetic stocks, procurement, and distribution of those swine, reagents, and their biological materials; and as a source of information and training related to the use of these animals in biomedical research as models of human health and disease.

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Accelerating Malaria Vaccine Discovery (Deadline: Ongoing)

The purpose of this Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) is to inform potential applicants about an area of special interest to NIAID on early phase translational research that will generate new malaria vaccine candidates with desirable features suitable for further downstream development and clinical evaluation. This NOSI encourages studies that will lead to discovery of new vaccine candidates that prevent infection, ameliorate disease, and/or interrupt transmission caused by human malaria parasites, especially Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax.

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Administrative Supplements to Recognize Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Mentorship (Deadline: April 07, 2022)

The participating Institutes and Centers (ICs) are inviting applications to support administrative supplements to existing awards of scientists who are outstanding mentors and who have demonstrated compelling commitments and contributions to enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in the biomedical sciences. Biomarker Signatures of TB Infection in Young Children With and Without HIV (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) (Deadline: June 8, 2022)

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will support discovery and validation research for biomarkers and biomarker signatures that can identify children under 5 years of age with Tuberculosis (TB) infection and predict those more likely to progress to active TB disease, allowing targeted treatment to those at risk of progression.

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) Pediatric COVID-19 and Respiratory Viral Co-infection (Deadline: Ongoing)

This NOSI is intended to support projects that will employ existing and new clinical trial cohorts/observational cohorts to screen for co-infection, phenotype and collect biospecimens to answer some of these questions and to encourage investigator-initiated applications for basic, translational and human subject research (not clinical trials) in this space.

Linking the Provider Recommendation to Adolescent HPV Vaccine Uptake (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) (Deadline: September 8, 2022)

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages research on how the healthcare delivery system enhances or inhibits the effectiveness of a provider's recommendation of the adolescent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. Characteristics of the provider, parent/patient, and clinical setting, can all affect whether a provider makes a recommendation, and whether that recommendation results in uptake of the HPV vaccine. This research requires expertise in cancer prevention, adult and childhood behavior, immunization promotion, and healthcare delivery.

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Advancing Research Needed to Develop a Universal Influenza Vaccine (Deadline: Ongoing)

The purpose of this Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) is to support research that contributes to the areas of interest outlined in “A Universal Influenza Vaccine: The Strategic Plan for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.” The proposed research should have clear relevance to the research objectives defined in the strategic plan, which encompasses three major research areas: improve understanding of transmission, natural history and pathogenesis of influenza virus infection, characterize influenza immunity and correlates of immune protection, and support rational design of universal influenza vaccines.
